about

this is by far the most depressing album i have ever recorded... one of those out of love, poor lonesome me albums... i find it really hard to listen to it... i recorded it over two days in the middle of a dunedin winter in a flat in ravensbourne in dunedin... ravensbourne is amazing because it's right on the water but in winter the sun seems to disappear about 3 pm and doesn't return until the next day... it was pouring rain outside... i was broke... i was smoking a ton of weed... the girl i loved was in another town... and this is what came out... i recorded it onto one cassette tape and the tape was pretty old and i recorded it pretty much in the order it appears on the album... as the album goes on you can clearly hear the tape getting more "wobbly"... looking back now i am so glad that i didn't go out and but a brand new tape because now the wobblyness of the tape is what makes the album for me... it kinda just sums up my mental state at the time... ready to snap... saying that this was also a great time for me musically as i was writing a ton of music, despressing as it was, and i was also playing every wednesday night at a great little bar called fuel on their 2 dollar pint night... i just set up in the corner of the front cafe and they feed me free beer and i'd play like 3 hour shows... and all i was doing at this time was getting up and playing music all day and living with my best friend glen ross from my favorite band onanon... i owe glen alot for supporting me over this time... i was a freeloading wreck and i'm sorry glen... you are my best friend and i really appreciate what you did for me and giving me a place to record and lending me your gear to record with... it was also around this time that i recorded my coke jingles... me and glen had headed to christchurch to see ben harper play (who was f@#kin' amazing by the way) and we got really high and watched the show and both of us sat there thinking, or at least i was thinking "man i'll never be in a band like this"... or even in an actual band for that matter... but then when i came back to dunedin i checked my emails and found that the company i had done the coke jingles for really liked them and wanted to fly me to auckland to record them... and thats where the girl i loved was living... it set of a chain of events that led me to live in auckland and led me my life that i am living now... it's weird how life works sometimes... thank you coca cola...
